Water is the most important for our body, without water we cannot use/absorb nutrients that come from carbs, proteins and fats.

Because water is so essential and beneficial does not mean that we can drink water whenever we want to drink.

Drink water so that it works for you and not against you.

5 reasons you are drinking water the wrong way

1. Drinking water after meals

Having a glass of water after meals might be the most satisfying thing for you. However, this is the worst drink that you can do for your body.

Reason:-

When we eat a meal, our body temperature rises for better digestion. But drinking water just after a meal instantly dilutes the gastric juices, reducing the body’s ability to digest food.

This way, the food doesn’t get digested properly and rots within the system and when food rots within the system, the body fails to absorb the nutrients from it.

Also it brings along the digestive problems like:-

  • Bloating,
  • Gas,
  • Acidity, etc.

Tip:-

Instead of drinking water, just rinse your mouth with water after meal. It really helps.

2. Gulping down the water

It might seem hard to believe but in reality the way water enters your body can make a huge difference.

If you drink water too fast, —-your body won’t accept it and would more flush of it out. Exactly the opposite of what you wanted to happen.

Reason:-

Our body is acidic in nature and on the other hand saliva in mouth is basic in nature. Saliva job is to stabilize the acid in the stomach.

When we gulp a large amount of water at one time, very less saliva gets mixed with water. So the atmosphere inside the stomach remains acidic.

This may cause:-

  • Acidity,
  • Indigestion,
  • Bloating,
  • Gas, etc
  • Even gain in weight,

Because stomach fails to absorb the nutrients from the food and remove the unwanted material from the body.

Correct way:-

Ideally, one should slowly sip the water to start with.

3. Drinking chilled water

Do you just run to the refrigerator to grab the bottle of chilled water to quench your thirst?  If yes, then you better stop doing that.

Reason:

Drinking chilled water can not only cause a sore throat but also has serious demerits

  • Cold water shrinks the blood vessels, seriously restricting the digestive process.
  • Chilled water also tends to solidify the facts from the food making it.
  • Make tough for your body to break down the unwanted fat.
  • Main cause to drink cold water is joint pains.
  • It decreases heart rate.

Correct way:-

Ideally, one should drink water at room temperature. Lukewarm water is even better.

Tip:-

If you want to drink cold water, start using earthen pots, not only they are natural water cooler but also balance the pH of water removing the impurities.

4. Drinking too much water

Don’t forcefully drink water to of the day even when you are not thirsty. Of course, proper hydration is important but excess of anything is bad and this holds true for water also.

Reason:-

Drinking water in excess makes the salts and other electrolytes in our body too diluted and causing the inside of cells to flood due to abnormally low sodium levels in your bloodstream.

Drinking too much water can result in water intoxication, also known as hyponatremia.

The symptoms of water intoxication are general — they can include confusion, disorientation, nausea, and vomiting. In rare cases, water intoxication can cause swelling in the brain and become fatal.

The symptoms of Dehydration: – yellowish urine, parched lips, very dry skin, lack of energy and rapid breathing.

5. Drinking water while standing

In today’s fast paced lives, drinking water not just standing but also walking or even while running is normal, but this is not the right way.

Reason:-

When we drink water in standing position, our kidneys are unable to filter the water properly. Moreover, in this position your muscles and nervous system are not relaxed and it makes difficult for your nerves too quickly digest the fluid. This may disrupt the balance of fluids in the body leading to greater accumulation of fluids in the joints.

Causes:-
